How can we capture debris in space? In this educational resource, we’ll learn how to make our own tentacle-shaped robotic arm that will help us capture debris, represented by Lego pieces. We’ll also compare different adhesive surfaces to help us trap debris!

At the end of this activity, students will be able to :

• Understand what satellites are and how they contribute to life on Earth.

• Familiarize yourself with the different methods of debris removal and gain a basic understanding of their mechanisms.

• Be able to draw inspiration from the world around them to tackle scientific problems.

• Be able to recognize when and how to set up comparative and fair tests, and explain which variables need to be controlled and why.

• Understand that there may be several ways of approaching the same problem, and that each method needs to be tested before being implemented.
